Chief Executive -West of England Combined Authority
A ‘spot’ salary in a competitive range of £135,000 to £155,000 is available recognising that the postholder will also be designated as the Authority’s statutory Head of Paid Service.
Around 50 staff are currently employed by the Authority who were transferred from the constituent local authorities in May 2017. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop further the leadership structure building on work already commenced.
The authority is moving into new premises this summer in Bristol’s Temple Quarter, which is convenient for public transport links around the region.
As a new authority, we’re now looking for a chief executive to build the WECA into a collaborative and effective organisation; one that has the right people, vision and pace to address some of the region’s key challenges, such as transport, housing, and productivity and skills and develop its economic potential.
You’ll be responsible for creating a strong leadership team, who’ll help you implement our fresh vision. You’ll ensure we’re focused and clear on being an effective and unique combined authority making the most of the support, partnership and community we have already around us and grow it further through a one culture, one team approach.
Currently, we’re made up of eight different organisations, put together by local authorities and members of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). You’ll need to review and redefine roles, galvanising the organisation into an effective authority with one culture –working towards the same goals.
To apply, it’s vital you know how to build an effective organisation from the ground up and take people with you. You’ll come with a strong background of partnership working able to refresh and restructure ours in line with the newly combined authority.
While you can join us from any sector, public or private, it’s important you have a strong understanding of local and/or central government and can bring networks and/or the means to access government and influence funding, decisions and outcomes for the West of England.
